The Postgraduate Showcase brought together a mixture of projects from students on both the MA Live Event Design and MA Immersive & Interactive Media Design courses. From immersive concerts and Metahuman experiences to representations of sleep cycles and projects blending nature with technology, the standard of work on display was truly impressive.

MA Live Event Design student Bobby Doughty’s project, Dreaming in the Night, featured an intricate configuration of scaffolding, ROE LED screens, and Hologauze, erected in Studio 003. This setup created an imposing backdrop for a visual and auditory representation of the dreaming process and sleep cycle.

Bobby explained how having access to industry-standard technology, combined with the expertise of ALT staff, has been hugely beneficial for his studies:

“I’ve learnt so much. This time last year, I would not have been able to pull this off at all. Being able to tinker around with software and use the resources that we have at hand has been very useful.”

The freedom to explore interests and access cutting-edge technology is also something that MA Immersive & Interactive Media Design student Linda Wachaga has particularly valued during her time at ALT:

“Having access to the space, the facilities, the equipment, as well as having the time to experiment with whatever I’m interested in – that’s been a really brilliant thing about being here.”

Her project integrated Metahumans into Unreal Engine. It uses conversational AI and markerless motion capture to create an experience where the audience becomes the central Metahuman and are able to explore the virtual world.
